Coastal cleanup in Piñones:
Thanks to the 29 volunteers who joined us at La Pocita del Terraplén! On Saturday, December 9, 2023, we participated in the large-scale coastal cleanup "Leave a Clean Footprint" in Piñones; a collaboration between LimPiaR, COPI, Arrecifes Pro-Ciudad, CRES, Surfrider Foundation, and the Estuary, which covered the coastal region from Boca de Cangrejos to Vacía Talega.
In La Pocita, we collected 35 bags of solid waste, totaling 1,153 pounds. We also removed 213 pails of oils and grease, equivalent to approximately 700 gallons. This collaboration is part of our efforts to reduce aquatic waste in the estuary. Learn more about these initiatives at: https://estuario.org/desechos-acuaticos/
Estuary Nursery Maintenance:
Last Saturday, December 9, 2023, 12 volunteers accompanied our Coastal Resilience Coordinator, Andreína Alexatos, and our Youth Engagement Coordinator, Agnes Pagán, to the maintenance of the Estuary Nursery located at the TAU Center in Loíza. They processed 800 red mangrove propagules, 90 button mangrove seedlings, and 30 white mangrove seedlings. They pruned, watered, cleaned, and took a big step toward the restoration of our coasts. Thank you!
