The Estuary continues to share the benefits of implementing green infrastructure in urban environments. Rainwater harvesting systems allow us to manage our water resources more efficiently, thus helping to mitigate the effects of droughts, which are increasing in severity and frequency due to climate change.
It should not touch the floor or reach the water
This week, as part of our initiative to improve solid waste management on Loíza Street and the surrounding area, we collected water samples from the storm sewer system. One of the goals of this project is to reduce the pollutants entering these sewers, which include solid waste (garbage) and liquid waste (oils and grease).
We urge everyone to reduce solid waste and reuse and recycle materials, such as used cooking oil. We invite you to conserve, adopt, and protect this water management infrastructure and the bodies of water it connects to.
Estuaries Week
We celebrate the beauty, importance, and strength of our Estuary and its people; reiterating our commitment to action for the improvement and protection of its ecosystems.
