Greetings to our entire estuary community. We send you our warmest regards and hope you are well as you receive this email. We are sharing these initiatives and actions carried out week after week. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of all.
Estuary Cinema
Estuary Cinema presents: Raya and the Last Dragon; tomorrow, Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Jaime Benítez Park in the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve, at 7 PM. Bring your blanket or chair and enjoy the outdoors with your family! Reserve your spot at https://estuario.org/eventos/.
NOTE : Due to circumstances beyond our control, the reading of "Canito, the Fishing Bat" scheduled for 6 PM will not take place. The Raya performance will proceed as planned at 7 PM. See you there!
Puerto Rico's Water Quality Monitoring Day concludes successfully
Puerto Rico's Water Quality Monitoring Day concluded with a total of 177 monitoring stations reporting across the island. We thank the 805 community leaders, citizen scientists, and collaborators who helped us raise awareness about the importance of managing and maintaining healthy water bodies in Puerto Rico. They gathered on Saturday, September 28, 2021. We remind all participants who have not yet returned their monitoring kits that they can coordinate with us to return them and receive their reusable Estuary bottle . We hope you received your participation certificate successfully.
Planting in the Estuarine Nature Reserve of the County Lagoon
Last Saturday, September 25th, a group of residents gathered on the north side of the lagoon near the Le Rivage condominium to plant red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle). Twenty-one seedlings were planted , which have the potential to buffer over 70% of wave energy, capture over 500 lbs of CO2 during their growth period, and create habitat for wildlife. Approximately 25 seedlings were also collected for propagation and future planting efforts. This initiative helps protect the important natural asset that is the RNELC (Regional Natural Park of the Littoral) for the enjoyment of these residents and their visitors.
