Tests were taken at several points of the Riachuelo (4), the data were the same except for the oxygen of one of them which came out 8ppm (this was taken from a part of the riachuelo where the water pools and is shaded all the time, compared to the other three which are in sunny areas and running water)

Daskalos School happily participated in the water monitoring. It was a very positive experience.

It was a trip down memory lane, reliving my childhood at Pozo de Juaca, where I used to fetch water for us, seeing the stream where my mother and other neighbors would go to wash clothes, and going down the mountain with my son-in-law and his three children. It's so sad that the trails no longer exist, as people have stopped visiting the streams. It's so important to revisit these places to clean all the waterways and enjoy them and the surrounding nature, like the trees, birds, flora, and fauna. To remember is to live. So many memories. An educational, dynamic experience, full of new knowledge. Thank you.

The atmosphere was pleasant, and there was solid waste in the mangrove area, which I collected. I put it in my trash containers. Styrofoam and glass bottles were also found.
Only one body of water could be visited due to a lack of testing materials (reagent or tablets).

The nitrate tablet was only half full because it broke and we lost the other half.

0: Tests were not performed due to a lack of reagents. Initially, it was determined to take a sample at the Iturregui Avenue bridge; however, due to safety concerns, the sampling point was changed. This canal recently experienced flooding, and dark, viscous material, possibly from hydrocarbons and/or grease from the nearby workshop, can be observed along its banks. Illegal discharges from the residences are suspected. This body of water is located behind the residences, which have direct access to the canal. The importance of the tests not performed (nitrate/phosphate) confirms the presence of irresponsible and illegal gray water disposal. For future sampling of bodies of water of this nature, we must have all the necessary reagents available. This canal is a direct tributary of the lagoon.

Moderately windy day.

A puddle with constant water movement, some trash: like balls, empty plastic water bottles.

Near the beach coast, when it rains heavily, a small river flows into the sea.
and the water brought by the runoff carries it to the beach.

Traffic passing over a bridge near the sampling area. Presence of animals such as ducks, fish, herons, and savanna doves. Water flowing due to the wind. Presence of people fishing in the lake. Animal excrement in the area. These were some of the observations noted in the water monitoring area.

The presence of animals was observed in the area, a person collecting water for use, garbage, water flow, fish, decomposing organic matter, and vehicle traffic on a bridge near the sample collection point.

Several fish were observed: catfish, zebrafish, goldfish, and shrimp. There was a strong current and abundant vegetation, such as bamboo. Upon reaching the river, we discovered that someone had dumped paving stones, cement, and bags of more paving stones and rubble—very sad.

The waves were quite strong.

The Nitrate and Phosphate tests were not performed because I could not find the "tablets".

The water temperature could not be measured because the temperature strip was damaged and did not change color. Three attempts were made.

The samples were taken on the shore, where there were trees overhead.

The place was clean; there were fish, pelicans, herons, mosquitoes, and plant debris.
No aquatic plants

The samples received did not include nitrate and phosphate levels. However, the Espíritu Santo River is suffering from a severe sewage discharge problem caused by a nearby treatment plant and the runoff from recent construction projects in the surrounding area. Fishermen are extremely concerned because traces of this discharge can be seen along the mangrove banks.

The water temperature could not be taken, as the strip did not indicate it.

It was carried out successfully.

These samples were taken behind the El Cabo business located in Piñones. This area is being severely impacted by commerce; plastic cups, beer bottles, and plates are visible in the mangrove area. It is necessary to raise awareness among business owners about the importance of this body of water, as I was able to identify various fish and baby crabs along its banks.

It was not possible to take the temperature, as the strip did not register it.

I tried three times to take the temperature, but it never registered; the third time, unfortunately, the thermometer came loose from the glass and was lost in the sea.

The sample was taken to detect the presence of E. coli.

Las Carreras beach receives the waters of the Herrera and Herrera rivers, lying between their mouths. The coastal erosion problem it is experiencing is severe. This area is surrounded by a coral reef where manatees come to feed. The beach area is covered in seaweed, and the turbidity at the shore is very strong. Normally, this body of water is calm, but the rising sea level and the obstacles placed as breakwaters are having an adverse effect.

There was a lot of trash and debris around.

The importance of participating is to learn how to create a healthier environment for the marine body and humanity.
Thus helping us to unite for well-being.

A pleasant experience. We are grateful to have been able to participate in this event. We have a few observations:

1. We wish we had been clearer about the sampling time frame. We conducted the tests outside of normal business hours.
2. We had three tubes for the four tests. We rinsed one and reused it, but it worried us.
3. There was trash in the ravine.
4. We identified moss, tadpoles, and insects in the area where we took the samples.

Regarding turbidity:
We noticed that the water was clear. We were able to clearly see the Secchi disk, but we didn't understand how to tabulate it numerically.

I wanted to monitor that pipe because Palo Seco and Bacardí discharge into that body of water.

The color of the phosphate was a very light blue.

The temperature measuring tape did not work.

There were many people at the river; it was a very busy day.

The beach and its coast belong to the Punta Cucharas Nature Reserve located in Bo. Canas, Municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Critical areas include subsistence, commercial and illegal fishing of some species.

The day was partly sunny, and prior to the start of sampling, there were some passing showers during the morning, followed by a heavier downpour around 10:00 am. It did not rain during the hour when the samples were taken. Winds were moderate to high.

It was cloudy and drizzling for approximately 30 minutes before sampling.
The temperature could not be measured with the strip; apparently, it was defective.
The hypersaline lagoon is fed by water from the La Matilde watershed and streams, as well as water from the Caribbean Sea. Mangrove pruning is needed in the estuary as it obstructs the water flow.

The area borders the former Mech-Tech racetrack in Ponce, Puerto Rico, formerly the El Tuque Recreational Complex, and now an abandoned site. It has a fishing area and an accumulation of solid and liquid waste; used motor oil and tires have been found there.

This body of water is part of the Punta Cucharas Nature Reserve in the municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico. It borders the new beach being developed by the administration of the Autonomous Municipality of Ponce, PR, on the site of the former recreational complex.

I was not provided with nitrate or phosphate reagents due to a shortage. Therefore, the results in this report are zero (0).

There was too much seaweed on the shore at the beach, and the waves were high. The weather was mostly cloudy. There were no other people using the beach where we were located.

The water appeared dirty or murky; the color change was noticeable compared to the blue of the sea further out. There was sargassum seaweed on the shore, but not in the water, unless it was swept in by the waves. There was a breeze and some swell. I want to inform you that I had to conduct the water quality monitoring this morning (April 2, 2023) because a personal matter yesterday (April 1, 2023) prevented me from doing so.

A gas station is located next to the canal. Boats use this canal to enter and exit the bay. There are residences and restaurants nearby.

I think the DO sampling didn't work. The water body is a live river with turbulence and flow. There are various types of macroinvertebrates and fish, such as the dagao.
I am very interested in participating in any future river monitoring efforts. Thank you!

There were scientists doing fish research on the river; we met them and they helped us.

The samples were collected inside the cave where the river originates by members of the Puerto Rico Speleological Society.

This area is located within 4 freshwater canals.

The monitoring kit we received included a temperature strip that only recorded from 0 degrees Celsius to 12 degrees Celsius, and we were unable to measure the temperature.

Turtles, birds, and fish were observed in the lagoon. Vegetation is abundant in the ecosystem, although trash and an unpleasant odor were present in the area.

Bacteriological test results 15 MPN/100ml Confidence limit of over 95% / 100ml = 63.20.

It was drizzling lightly during the sampling, like a mist. The water was clear and small fish, like guppies, could be seen.

We were right below Highway PR-53; further down is the river mouth, and the sea was coming in. We saw fish, freshwater snails (Vitta virginea), and small shrimp (probably Xiphocaris elongata).

The lagoon is enclosed, with access to the sea at high tide, but more so due to the water table. We saw green iguanas, coots, great egrets, and blue herons. We also heard the call of the Blue-gray Tanager. We saw shrimp larvae. The water appears dark, but that's because the lagoon is a coastal wetland with white mangroves and mangrove trees along its edge.

It was observed that the Rio Blanco flows onto the beach. There is a busy bridge over the Rio Blanco. There was trash in the surrounding area (plastic cups, bottles, cans, etc.). It is a popular area, and a group of residents is responsible for maintaining order and cleanliness. The area is aesthetically pleasing.

The sampling point is at the former mouth of the Río Grande de Patillas. It's currently a wetland that is almost certainly connected to the sea by the water table. We usually see jumping fish, iguanas, and various wetland birds.

The nitrate reagent was damaged, so that parameter was not measured.

There are many boats at the docks and oil can be seen on the surface.

The value for dissolved oxygen is probably an error.

The thermometer had no numbers. The tape was applied and the container was submerged for 2 minutes, but it did not register a temperature.

Two samples were taken at the same location at the same time with two different kits; the results are the averages of both results (since it was done as a group activity).
Additionally, the test was performed in the reservoir and in the Water Body Type area it does not appear as an option.

This beach is very busy with businesses nearby. The fish market was destroyed after Hurricane Maria, and the fishermen from the Fishermen's Association are demanding an alternative to continue their work in the area.

The "Chorritos" are springs that emerge from a limestone rock face on Highway 149, between Ciales and Manatí, and are fed by groundwater. The body of water is a spring, and it is recommended that a new category be created for it. The area is used by many people for washing, showering when they are passing through or without water, and even more so during storms.

The Guayaney spring is an outflow of groundwater south of Tortuguero Lagoon, between Manatí and Vega Baja. Despite being located within the estuary, the hydraulic gradient predominates, resulting in a higher concentration of freshwater. The temperature caused a slight problem with the seal, but the water is extremely cold, around 22°C to 24°C.

Heavy waves caused the sea to enter the river mouth, mixing the two bodies of water. It rained heavily the night before.

Many seaweeds could be seen floating. There was a lot of swell and some people in the water some distance from the area where the tests were being conducted.

We had no instructions for the nitrate or phosphate. The phosphate came out clear and the nitrate yellow.

The river was much higher than normal due to the rains of the previous night and early morning.

The approximate start time was 10:45, the system won't let me enter it.

A total of 6 stations were monitored and the data were similar except for turbidity, which in the Rio area was 40 JTU.

A super different and interesting experience.

The stream flows steadily and there is healthy vegetation.

No fish life was found in the river, only vegetation.

The water looked clear. It had lots of small fish, shrimp, and crayfish. There were also mosquitoes buzzing around in the water.

This activity was carried out by Biologist Rafael Rodríguez in the dock area in Sardinera, Mona Island Nature Reserve.

There were problems entering the coordinates. These are 17°56'45″N latitude and 66°57'57″W longitude.

The results for the Biochemical Oxygen Demand and Fecal Coliforms samples are still pending, and results will be obtained in 2 and 5 days respectively from today at the time of sampling.

The water sample was taken from moving water. There was shade in the area. There were fish and turtles. This area was used for recreation by local residents in the 1960s and 1970s.

The sampling location was at the boat ramp near the pier at Palmas Altas beach. The area is clean; no trash is visible. It's a recreational area for fishing, kayaking, and paddleboats, with a food kiosk.

The water at Playa del Tuque in Ponce underwent testing, and the results showed high levels of phosphate. This could be due to the discharge of wastewater from restaurants or the use of herbicides. Further observation of the area is necessary to determine the cause of the high phosphate levels.

A group of students from the UPR school monitored the Rio Piedras at the Old Aqueduct facilities.

The activity was enjoyable for both adults and young people. It was very interesting and educational. It was interesting to see the difference in the data between each group when they were approximately 25 meters apart.

Fishing and Manatee Area. No trash was observed in the surrounding area. Earthmoving (dredging) machinery was observed. It had rained several days prior.

The longitude is -65.771636. No temperature was measured. The body of water contained many fish, geese, and other animals. Everything appeared to be in good condition.

It was actively raining on the day of sampling. The sampling site is a canal that collects runoff from Highway PR-14 in front of UPR-Cayey. The water was turbid and moving quickly. Small fish can usually be seen in the water, but this time visibility was poor.

We collected additional data using: 1. A refractometer for salinity = 0 ppt; 2. Multiparameter test strips (aquarium type; TETRA-Easy-Strips brand). The data we obtained are as follows: Ammonia = 0 ppm; Nitrate = 0 ppm; Nitrite = 0 ppm; Hardness = 300 ppm; Total Chlorine = 0.5 ppm; Alkalinity = 80 ppm; pH = 6.8. We did not observe any dead fish. There is some debris, but it is mostly runoff. No oil or gasoline was detected.

We took additional data with: 1. Refractometer for salinity = 16 ppt; 2. TETRA Easy Strips for the following parameters: Ammonia = 0 ppm; Nitrate = 0 ppm; Nitrite = 0 ppm; Alkalinity = 300 ppm; pH = 8.4. As there is quite a bit of salt in the water, we used the “saltwater” scale of the strips.

The previous day and night it rained in Ponce and in the El Tuque Sector region where the Las Salinas Lagoon is located within the Punta Cucharas nature reserve.
Orientation, demonstrations, and training were provided prior to the monitoring. An environmental interpretation tour of the ecosystem was also offered alongside the Water Quality Monitoring, thanks to the San Juan Bay Estuary Program kit, and aquatic and marine birds were observed on the property.

DRNA biologist Gaspar Pons authorized the monitoring of another body of water that is part of the Punta Cucharas nature reserve, in the coastal area where there are mangroves and where fishermen frequent. Data provided in another report.

Around the body of water there was trash such as cans, clothing, tires, etc. It wasn't a large amount, but its presence was noticeable. Talking with the participants, they mentioned that they always see trash on the sand, but they hadn't seen it thrown into the water.

This body of water often has a reddish color.

The area is a ravine in the Barranquitas River in the town of Barranquitas. It is a residential area near the town center. Houses and small agricultural plots (home gardens) with plants such as bananas, plantains, and some tubers, apparently cultivated by local residents, were observed around the area. The water body is less than one foot deep, perhaps two feet in some areas. The water appeared clear, flowing through the ravine, but there were also areas with microalgae and macroalgae growth. Plant growth was observed around the water's edge, along with small fish, organic matter, and signs of eutrophication. Some domestic wastewater and trash were also observed in the area. The day was partly sunny; it had rained in the preceding days. The activity began at 9:1 AM and ended at 10:2 AM. Sampling was carried out at approximately 9:30 AM.
