Green Infrastructure Pilot Project Begins at Condado Lagoon

On Thursday, May 20, 2021 Estuario continued its Condado Lagoon restoration efforts by kicking off its Green Infrastructure Pilot Project in the area with reforestation activities. The planting of several species aims to reconnect separate patches of red mangroves around the Lagoon, diminish erosion zones and increasing flora and fauna diversity in the habitat. Sing & Fly with Birds!

Join Estuario this Saturday, May 22 2021 to the workshop for children Sing & Fly with Birds! Discovering Endemic Birds in the Estuary, as part of the Endemic Birds Festival of the Caribbean celebration. The event will be through Zoom. Register HERE.

Citizen Scientist Certification

The latest elective workshops series for Estuario’s Citizen Scientist Certification Program has ended, with a total of 283 participants throughout all three thematic modules. 

This week’s workshop, Characterization of Microplastics in Water, was performed on wednesday May 19, 2021 and had 79 participants.

Throughout the end of this week, Estuario released a series of three informative videos geared at educating the public about the basics of hazard mitigation, the empowerment of communities resulting from developing a hazard mitigation plan, and the benefits of creating a collaborative, multijurisdictional plan that emphasizes geographic regions over political boundaries. These videos have been released following the round of Asset Identification workshops that covered the nine municipalities collaborating in the San Juan Bay Estuary Watershed-Based Hazard Mitigaiton Plan. A new round of Hazard Identification workshops will begin June 1, 2021.
