Rights under Title VI of the U.S. Civil Rights Act
Title VI of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits programs or activities that receive financial assistance from the U.S. federal government from discriminating against individuals. Specifically, section 601 of Title VI states that no person in the United States shall be discriminated against or excluded from participating in programs or activities that receive federal money because of race, color, or national origin.
With this statute as a basis, the U.S. Federal Government has created new laws that extend protection against discrimination to other groups. These include Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of a person’s sex; section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which protects from discrimination of people with disabilities who seek services from employers and organizations that receive Federal financial assistance; and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975 that prohibits age discrimination in services or programs that receive Federal money, among others.
In accordance with Federal anti-discrimination laws, Estuario notifies all interested parties of our commitment to preventing discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.

To ensure that all citizens of the San Juan Bay Estuary watershed are properly informed and educated, Estuario has taken significant steps to provide bilingual content. We recognize that language should not be a barrier to accessing the information and services we offer.
1. Website: Our official website (estuario.org) offers complete information in both Spanish and English. This includes reports, updates, program descriptions, educational materials, and event announcements. Users can easily choose the most convenient language.
2. Publications: The main publications, reports and brochures produced by Estuario are available in both Spanish and English, including the Estuario Weekly Update, the annual work plans and the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan. We are committed to ensuring that our published materials are accessible to a wider audience.
3. Events and workshops: Estuario organizes community engagement events that are conducted bilingually. Whenever possible, interpreters and bilingual staff are available to facilitate communication.
4. Outreach Efforts: Our outreach initiatives are designed to reach diverse communities within the San Juan Bay Estuary watershed. We actively engage with Spanish-speaking communities through these campaigns and partnerships.
