Population Distribution in the Estuary Basin

In this demographic section we present data published by the United States Census Bureau about the population of the nine municipalities that include the Estuario de la Bahía de San Juan basin.

The United States Census Bureau collects and releases data about the population, places, and economy of the United States of America and its territories. According to Article One, Section Two of the Constitution of the United States, every 10 years the Bureau has to recount every resident, though other data is available more frequently.

The information gathered is added following the official administrative divisions that have been established depending on the level of detail and the geographical scale. In the case of Puerto Rico, some of these official divisions are municipalities, neighborhoods, census sectors, and census blocks, among others.

This administrative division is zoned by smaller regions with a certain homogeneity according to population characteristics, economic status and living conditions. They are contiguous areas characterized by a total population that fluctuates around 4,000 people.

The map below shows the distribution of the population in the census sectors throughout the region that comprises the basin of the Estuario de la Bahía de San Juan.
