Join the Forum: Estuarine Voices
Estuario invites the public to join the presentation of its new publication, Estuarine Voices: Life Stories from the Communities of the San Juan Bay Estuary; a compendium of anecdotes from urban and rural areas of Puerto Rico’s Metropolitan Area which highlights the collective and individual relationships with their natural resources and the struggles to defend them from urban sprawl.
The presentation will feature a forum, with the participation of the book’s editor, Dr. Javier E. Laureano, compiler Dr. Ruth García Pantaleón, collaborators Sonya Canetti, Director of the Fundación Puertorriqueña de las Humanidades’ Projects Office, and José Santiago Reillo, community leader in Península de Cantera. Public Health Merit Badge
Distrito Guaitiao of Boy Scouts of America in Puerto Rico and Estuario, with the collaboration of the University of Puerto Rico’s Graduate Public Health School at the Medical Sciences Precinct, will be offering a workshop to obtain the Public Health Merit Badge. The offering coincides with EPA’s 50 anniversary and its commemoration through a celebratory badge, which requires the Public Health Merit Badge.
The workshops will be given on Saturdays, April 10 and 17, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, through Zoom.

Identification of Assets for the San Juan Bay Mitigation Plan
Recruiting has begun for collaborators who will help identify assets from their communities for the development of the San Juan Bay Estuary’s Multi-Jurisdictional Mitigation Plan. Potential collaborators can register HERE.
Citizen Science Certification Workshops
A total of 315 citizens participated in the first workshop series of Estuario’s Citizen Science Certification Program’s three modules: Water Quality Monitoring, Participatory Birds Census and Microplastics.
Out of that total, 121 citizen scientists participated this past Wednesday, March 17 2021, at the Introduction to Microplastics and other Aquatic Debris workshop provided by Cristina Colón, Stakeholder and Aquatic Debris Projects Coordinator at Estuario.
Estuario Resident Artists 2021
We’re proud to announce the new Resident Artists at Estuario, Zuleyka Alejandro and Juan Climent. Their project aims to generate a recycling center which will double as an artistic expression workshop, utilizing diverted materials. The project will see the development of a workshop series with the community, surrounding the theme of paper reuse. Watch a video prepared by the artists, HERE.
