Call for applications: Coordinator of the Water Quality Monitoring Day
Water Quality Monitoring Day is the largest citizen science event in Puerto Rico led by the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, as well as the only island-wide water quality monitoring event.
Since 2009, more than 10,000 citizen scientists have participated in the event. This year marks the eleventh edition, taking place on Saturday, April 25, 2020.
To coordinate the event, we are seeking a Coordinator. The coordinator should demonstrate enthusiasm for bringing this important event to all sectors and increasing participation, taking into account the data and participation from previous years. Water quality and safe water for all in Puerto Rico should be their guiding principles when applying for this job opportunity.
The coordinator's main responsibilities will be:
(1) Promote collaboration between organizations, academia, government agencies and private corporations.
(2) Offer workshops on methodology in the island-level water sample collection process.
(3) Distribute monitoring and information materials to the monitoring stations. Provide support to the groups and individuals participating before, during and after the event.
(4) Recruit volunteers across the entire island.
(5) Collect and digitize data on the results and generate a final report of the event.
Requirements:
(1) Preferably have experience coordinating events.
(2) Possess skills in coordinating workshops and group training.
(3) Preferably have participated in the Puerto Rico Water Quality Monitoring Day.
(4) Have a personal computer, own car and availability to travel across the Island.
