NOTICE OF CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY FOR GRAPHIC ARTIST FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT OF THE ESTUARY

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The San Juan Bay Estuary (Estuary) is seeking a professional graphic artist to assist with estuarine education efforts. The graphic artist will be responsible for evaluating, creating, modifying, and developing educational materials in various formats and using various tools, including but not limited to PDF, JPEG, Word, PNG, and Canva. They will utilize content developed by the education and citizen science department to create and edit educational materials for online distribution and reproduction by citizens on the Estuary's website and social media platforms.
The contractor must be available to begin the project on May 15, 2020. Their first task will be the layout and digitization of educational materials for the activities and projects of summer 2020, which begin in June. Once this task is completed, the expectation is to continue this process for other educational materials and for the three citizen science curricula offered by the Estuary. The contractor will begin on June 1 and deliver their products by September 30, 2020. This will be four (4) months of intensive work for the Estuary, with the support of the Estuary team.
TASKS TO BE DONE
- Create and edit educational material for summer activities at the Estuary.
- Evaluate, edit, compile, illustrate and create educational visual material to share on social media and the Estuary's website.
- Edit, illustrate or design educational material for printing (posters, postcards, stickers, booklets, pamphlets, stories)
- Small and large format signage.
- Include diverse and innovative ways of presenting information in the digital material; among these, short educational videos.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Artistic merit (portfolio)
- Proficient in programs such as Adobe, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or equivalent
- Experience in educational campaigns
- Flexible, positive attitude, focused on finding solutions and a desire to achieve results
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Ability to work through stipulated deadlines
- Capacity for teamwork
- Bilingual writing skills (English and Spanish)
REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge, passion and interest in environmental issues and community development
- Having your own computer and equipment to perform the assigned tasks
- Available for the established period: from June 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020
- Ease of working remotely
COMPENSATION
The contract compensation will be discussed and determined based on the candidate's credentials and experience.

Founded in 1994, the San Juan Bay Estuary is a non-profit organization whose mission is to restore the San Juan Bay Estuary system, the meeting point of river water with the ocean in eight municipalities.
