[CALL FOR APPLICATIONS] WATER QUALITY DAY COORDINATOR

Led by the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, the Water Quality Day It is the largest citizen science event in Puerto Rico, as well as the only island-wide water quality monitoring event. More than 10,000 citizen scientists have participated since 2009.

We are seeking an Estuary Coordinator to organize this event. The coordinator will be responsible for enthusiastically engaging all sectors of the community and increasing participation, taking into account data from previous years. Their primary goal should be access to clean and safe water for all in Puerto Rico.

Their main responsibilities will be:

  • Promote collaboration among participating organizations, academia, government agencies, and private corporations.
  • Offer workshops on the methodology for collecting water samples at the island level.
  • Distribute monitoring and information materials to the monitoring stations.
  • Provide support to the groups and individuals participating before, during, and after the event.
  • Recruit volunteers across the entire island.
  • Establish communication with organizations, private entities, community groups, and schools.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and inventory of monitoring materials.
  • Collect and digitize all the results data.
  • Generate final event report.

Requirements:

  • Experience coordinating events (preferred).  
  • Possess skills in coordinating workshops and training for groups.
  • Preferably, have participated in Puerto Rico's Water Quality Day.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Organizational skills, time management, and public speaking.
  • Must have a personal computer, own car, and be available to travel across the island.
