Led by the San Juan Bay Estuary, Water Quality Monitoring Day (WQMD) is the largest citizen science event in Puerto Rico, as well as the only island-wide water quality monitoring event. More than 10,000 citizen scientists have participated since 2009, and this year we celebrate its thirteenth edition, taking place in August 2021.
We are seeking a Coordinator to organize this event. The coordinator will be responsible for enthusiastically engaging all sectors of the DMCA and increasing participation, taking into account data from previous years. Their primary goal should be access to clean and safe water for all in Puerto Rico.
Their main responsibilities will be:
- Promote collaboration between organizations, academia, government agencies, and private corporations.
- Offer workshops on methodology in the island-level water sample collection process.
- Distribute monitoring and informational materials to the monitoring stations. Provide support to participating groups and individuals before, during, and after the event.
- Recruit volunteers across the entire island.
- Establish communication with organizations, private entities, community groups, and schools.
- Collect and digitize the results data.
- Generate final event report.
Requirements:
- Experience coordinating events (preferred).
- Possess skills in coordinating workshops and training for groups.
- Preferably, have participated in the Puerto Rico Water Quality Monitoring Day.
- Effective communication skills.
- Must have a personal computer, own car, and be available to travel across the island.
