Other activities

Family day out at County Lagoon

Last Saturday, April 6th, we celebrated our Family Day Out at the County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. We had an obstacle course, in which four young people participated. Afterwards, we took an interpretive tour with the Reserve's events coordinator, Mario García, with 18 participants.

Later, we held a training workshop for Puerto Rico Water Quality Day with event coordinator Andrea Colón, and we concluded with Estuary Cinema, where 116 people came to see Elemental. Thank you to all the participants who joined us.

Until next time!

The 2024 Community BioBlitz in Capetillo was a success.

The Capetillo community and CAUCE, in collaboration with the San Juan Bay Estuary, celebrated the 2024 Community BioBlitz of the Capetillo Urban Garden, Nursery and Forest last Saturday, April 6.

During the activity, the community joined Estuary staff, citizen scientists, professors and students from the UPR and other entities to document the biodiversity of this urban natural space, located in the middle of Río Piedras and which is part of the Estuary's Urban Forest Network.

Over 200 different species were identified in approximately 637 observations that were documented through the iNaturalist application.

Thanks to all the neighbors and volunteers who participated in this citizen science event.

Scout earns Bird Study merit badge

We congratulate the young Scout Rosemary Morales González, from troop 377, who passed her final evaluation for the Bird Study merit badge with outstanding results.

Rosemary participated in both virtual workshops offered by the Estuary, in collaboration with the Guaitiao District and the Puerto Rico Council of the Boy Scouts of America. She also participated in one of the Gamaliel Pagán Hernández Christmas bird censuses. Congratulations!
