Weekly Estuary Update
Greetings from the Estuary! This week, the Estuary invites you to continue contributing to your community's resilience by learning about the results of the San Juan metropolitan area risk assessment, part of Puerto Rico's first Multijurisdictional Risk Mitigation Plan. Participate in initiatives to reduce aquatic waste and promote responsible recycling, and continue your environmental learning through the Citizen Scientist Certification program.
Multijurisdictional Risk Mitigation Plan: Presentation of the results of the risk assessment of the San Juan metropolitan region
The Autonomous Municipality of Guaynabo and the San Juan Bay Estuary invite you to the presentation of the results of your municipality's risk assessment, part of the development of the first Multijurisdictional Risk Mitigation Plan in Puerto Rico, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 9:30 am at the Petra Collazo Vega Multi-Service Center ( see the location on Google Maps here ).

Reducing aquatic waste in estuary waters
It is part of several recycling and waste reduction initiatives across the San Juan Bay estuary watershed:
Electronics Recycling Event in the Municipality of San Juan
On Friday, November 14, 2025, the Municipality of San Juan will hold its annual Electronics Recycling Event from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Community Drop-Off Center in the Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseum. You can properly and responsibly dispose of electronic equipment you no longer use, such as computers, cell phones, televisions, game consoles, and more.
Call for volunteers for recycling stations at La Goyco Community Workshop
Join us as a volunteer at one of the recycling stations for the La Goyco Community Workshop Christmas Lighting on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Your participation will count as field experience for the Microplastics Characterization and Reduction module of the Estuary Citizen Scientist Certification. Shifts will be three hours long.

Weekly bacteriological monitoring
Assessment conducted on Thursday, November 6, 2025. We have a GREEN flag for County Lagoon. We recommend avoiding areas that exceeded the water quality parameter for enterococci, "Beach Action Value," of 70 CFU/100 ML. Remember to avoid the water during rain events.
