Weekly Estuary Update

This week we continued sharing efforts and opportunities to strengthen the waters connected to the San Juan Bay estuary, its ecosystems, and communities. Happy holidays and a prosperous new year!

Meeting of the Estuary Citizens' Advisory Committee

The San Juan Bay Estuary invites you to the next Citizens Advisory Committee meeting, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Estuary offices and virtually via Zoom.

We will share the progress of the 2026 fiscal year work plan and discuss the proposed plan for 2027. This space is an opportunity to learn about the actions we are taking for the restoration and management of the waters and ecosystems connected to the estuary, ask questions, share ideas, and be part of the dialogue that strengthens this collaborative work.

Christmas Bird Censuses Gamaliel Pagán Hernández

The 2025-2026 season of the Gamaliel Pagán Hernández Christmas Bird Censuses continues.

There are still spots available for the censuses on January 7th and 8th. Join us to assess the health of the ecosystems connected to the San Juan Bay estuary by counting and documenting its endemic and migratory birds. Sign up today!

Census completion will count toward Green Contact hours or community service. See the calendar and register at [website address]. estuary.org/events.

Weekly bacteriological monitoring

Assessment conducted on Thursday, January 1, 2026. We have a RED flag for County Lagoon. We recommend avoiding areas that exceeded the water quality parameter for enterococci, "Beach Action Value," of 70 CFU/100 ML. Remember to avoid the water during rain events.
