Estuary Update! 

Greetings to our entire estuary community. We send you our warmest regards and hope you are well as you receive this email. We are sharing these initiatives and actions carried out week after week. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of all.

Weekly water quality monitoring

We present the results of the weekly water quality monitoring, made the Wednesday, August 19, 2021. These are published every Friday by our Facebook page.

Following last week's precipitation events, We raise the green flag again For recreational use of the lagoon. We recommend being cautious after rainfall events and avoiding areas that still have fecal bacteria levels outside of water quality standards. 

Spruce Craft Marathon for Transforming Glass Bottles

Continued Great Artisan Marathon of Glass Bottle Transformation.

Pilot Project for Green Infrastructure in the Estuarine Nature Reserve of the County Lagoon

Learn about the implementation of restoration and maintenance of green areas in the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve. 

This project consists of planting native species such as the red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle), almond (Terminalia catappa), eugenia (Eugenia borinquensis), emajagüilla (Thespesia populnea) and sea grapes (Coccoloba uvifera).

The series of elective workshops for the Estuary Scientific Citizen Certification concludes

During the month of August, a total of 182 participants They tuned in to our most recent round of workshops electives as part of our Estuary Citizen Scientist Certification program. Each of the available modules; Water Quality, Participatory Bird Censuses, and Characterization and Reduction of Microplastics; they offered the following workshops: Understanding the water birds of the Estuary wetlands, Climate Change and Water Quality y Microplastics: Research in the Estuary Basin. 

Pending the field trips that are approaching in order to complete the Certification of Scientific Citizens of the Estuary.
