Estuary Update
Tomorrow's the big day! The island's largest citizen science event! Puerto Rico's 2022 Water Quality Monitoring Day, from 9 AM to 11 AM. Have you registered yet? There's still time! Very important: upload your photos and tag us on your favorite social media platforms. We'll be sharing on our page how thousands of citizens are joining this great effort. We've distributed all the monitoring kits for the event. If you didn't get yours, don't worry! You can still participate. Look for our information table at El Escambrón Beach in San Juan, where we'll be alongside the Municipality of San Juan, Sea Grant, Scuba Dogs Society, Trito Agro-Industrial Services, Inc. (tais) , and Guarda Ríos (Friends of the Piedras River).
Citizen Scientist Certification
The current round of elective workshops for the Citizen Scientist certification with the Estuary continues. Don't miss the workshop corresponding to the Participatory Bird Censuses thematic module: Getting to Know the Waterbirds of the Estuary Wetlands; with our Education Manager, Eliezer Nieves, on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, from 7-8 PM via Zoom.

On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the bird census was carried out in San Juan Bay, part of the participatory bird census module of the Estuary's citizen scientist certification project.
Friends of the Lagoon
We thank the residents, users, collaborators, and administrators of the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Reserve who participated in the Friends of the Lagoon meeting on Wednesday, August 24. At this meeting, the community-based group discussed the new co-management agreement for the reserve between the Estuary, the Municipality of San Juan, and the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources.

Contract Announcement
Risk Mitigation Specialist — We are seeking a service provider with a proven track record of success in developing FEMA-approved risk mitigation plans to advise on the development of the Multijurisdictional Risk Mitigation Plan for the San Juan metropolitan area in Puerto Rico. Application deadline: September 19, 2022.
Weekly bacteriological monitoring
Assessment carried out on Thursday, August 25, 2022. We have a red flag in the County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve and other areas did not meet the quality standard, so we recommend avoiding contact in these areas and being alert to precipitation events.
