Estuary Update

Through our weekly update, we share opportunities for collaboration, volunteering, and employment; through initiatives and planned actions that benefit the ecosystems and communities of the San Juan Bay estuary. These activities, tips, and information are for the benefit of everyone.

WWD

This past Tuesday, March 22, was World Water Day. This official United Nations day has been celebrated every year since 1993. Its purpose is to highlight the importance of water as a resource and the mission of providing safe and equitable access to it. Read more at estuary.org.

Friends of the Lagoon

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, we held the most recent meeting of the Friends of the Lagoon community group. The meeting was held in a hybrid format, combining a virtual space with in-person attendees at Jaime Benítez Park in the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Reserve. We thank all the citizens, neighbors, collaborators, educators, and students who participated in this conversation.

Talk: San Juan Bay Estuary

Reserve your spot! Science Week 2022.

The Estuary Program invites you to the talk: Research Opportunities through Citizen Science in the San Juan Bay Estuary Program. The event will take place on Monday, April 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the STEM CDC-1 room (central corridor, between corridors A and B). In-person attendance is limited. You can also join via Teams. The presenters will be Eliezer Nieves and Coral Avilés, Estuary Manager and Education Coordinator, respectively.

Community cinema in the Caño

Enjoy a family outing at the Community Cinema screening at Caño Martín Peña, featuring Raya and The Last Dragon; el Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 7 PM At El Triángulo, Ave. Ponce de León, corner of Ave. Rexach. Reserve your spot by calling 787-696-6471. This event is free of charge.

Estuary Cinema

Estuary Cinema presents: Cruella; el Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 7 PM at Jaime Benítez Park in the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Reserve. As usual, this event is free. Bring your blanket or chair. We'll be waiting for you!

Weekly Water Quality Monitoring

Results of the evaluation carried out on Thursday, March 24, 2022. We continue with green flag For the County Lagoon Estuarine Reserve. We recommend always being alert to precipitation events.
