We're just eight days away from the island's largest citizen science event! Puerto Rico's 2022 Water Quality Monitoring Day will be held on Saturday, August 27, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Puerto Rico Water Quality Monitoring Day
The next training workshop for Puerto Rico's 2022 Water Quality Monitoring Day will be held tomorrow , Saturday, August 20, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the Río Piedras Botanical Garden and virtually via Zoom. Register on our website to participate.
Friends of the Lagoon
At the next Friends of the Lagoon meeting, to be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 5 PM, we will be reviewing and approving the draft collaborative agreement for the Condado Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve, between Estuary, the Municipality of San Juan, and the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA). The meeting will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and virtual) at the gazebo in Jaime Benítez Park and via Zoom. On the portal, you'll also find informative documents relevant to this meeting, including a preliminary draft of the agreement, where you can submit comments and suggestions. Citizen Scientist Certification
The current round of elective workshops for the Citizen Scientist certification with the Estuary continues: don't miss the workshops corresponding to the thematic modules of Microplastic Characterization and Reduction, Water Quality, and Participatory Bird Censuses. The next workshop is Application of Indicators to Determine Water Pollution and Quality; with EPA Region 2 ORISE Fellow Ivelisse Capiel, on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from 7-8 PM via Zoom.
Contract Announcement
Risk Mitigation Specialist — We are seeking a service provider with a proven track record of success in developing FEMA-approved risk mitigation plans to advise on the development of the Multijurisdictional Risk Mitigation Plan for the San Juan metropolitan area in Puerto Rico. Application deadline: September 19, 2022.

Weekly bacteriological monitoring
Assessment conducted on Thursday, August 18, 2022. We have a red flag in the County Lagoon Estuarine Nature Reserve, and several areas along the shoreline. These areas did not meet the quality standard, so we recommend avoiding contact with these areas and being alert for precipitation events.
