Update The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico has enacted several laws which identify estuarine concepts and establish the protection of estuarine systems and their resources as a public policy.  Such laws are:
? Law 40 of June 9, 1948, as amended and known as ?Law for the Reclamation of Swamp and Arid Lands in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico? (Law can be found in the SJBEP Office)
? Law 150 of August 4, 1988, known as ?Law for the creation of Puerto Rico?s Natural Patrimony Program? (Law can be found in the SJBEP Office)
? Law 278 of Novemeber 29, 1998, as amended and knows as ?Puerto Rico?s Fisheries Law? (see Attachment 35)
? Law 314 of December 24, 1998, as amended and know as ?Law to Declare Public Policy about Wetlands?(see Attachment 75)
? Law 14 of July 15, 1999, known as ?Law for the Protection, Conservation and Management of Coral Reefs in Puerto Rico?(see Attachment 76)
? Law 241 of August 15, 1999, as amended and known as ?Puerto Rico?s New Law for Wildlife?(see Attachment 241)
? Law 430 of December 21, 2000, as amended and known as ?Puerto Rico?s Law for Navigation and Aquatic Security? (see Attachment 29)
The SJBEP conducts periodic strategic planning meetings where BOD members and Program staff discuss emerging issues in roundtable sessions and targeted dynamics
